Patrick Beach – Awakening Yoga weekend workshop

Yoga Manchester are thrilled to announce details of Patrick Beach’s return to Manchester to teach another of his incredible weekend workshops in 2024.

Patrick is the creator of Awakening Yoga, a vigorous and fluid vinyasa yoga practice that builds strength, creates flexibility and inspires play. Patrick’s teaching goes beyond intelligent alignment; moving any willing student to an introspective, holistic experience. Awakening Yoga is a map for the modern yoga student to explore their practice in a way that meets them where they are. Each element of the practice is layered with functional movement, metaphor and imagination.

Awakening Yoga – The Lunar Mobility Practice

I believe in the foundational truth that we are all designed to move. That movement exists in every plane, and thus so must we. Through this complimentary practice we will utilize an array of principles from movement, somatics, functional mobility, and yoga asana to expand our perceptions of possibility and our capacity for exploration.
The Lunar Mobility Practice includes considerably less weight-bearing shapes and focuses primarily on joint mobility , spacial awareness, and individual range of motion exploration through the lens of a flowing yoga practice.
Be prepared to move, breathe, play, and see what your body is capable of!

All levels are welcome to this fun journey into the practice.

Saturday 9 March 10am-12pm

Core Control

It is easy to think of “core work” as something that resembles an old pilates VHS that you often do in the beginning of every class to set the tone. While this may help you get the energy going it doesn’t give us much application as to how this helps us move and transition in the flow of a vinyasa practice. In this session, we will learn how to effectively use our core to generate the power needed to help us move from pose to pose with fluidity. Learn to breathe properly, build strength in deep spinal flexion, and create length through the back body to support each effort along the way.

Saturday 9 March 1 pm – 3 pm

Circling the Spine

Backbends are the physical reset our bodies need from modern life. They are beautifully complex poses filled with a wide variety of physical variables and spiritual connection that can be a portal to deeper personal awareness or constant confusion. In this workshop, we will use the Awakening Yoga system to help you understand how to circle through the spine and work with your current condition to create a sustainable back bend practice that will leave you feeling stable and supported every step of the way.

Modern Mobility

Bring balance, awareness, and functionality to your yoga practice through this fun targeted mobility practice. Using a unique method developed working with students in one-on-one over the years, this practice is designed to help you create a bridge between your current flexibility and active range of motion. Learn science-backed methods for getting your body moving to stay healthy while feeling free to explore every step of the way.

Be prepared to move, breathe, play, and see what your body is capable of!

Sunday 10 March 1 pm – 3 pm

A Complete Practice

Movement. Breath. Stillness. Centering. This yoga practice will give you the opportunity to explore many sides of yourself as we balance classic Awakening Yoga sequences with traditional asana, powerful breath work, and meditation to leave you in a state of deep personal connection. Feel the energetic shifts come in waves in this unique session that will bring a sense of exploration to the familiar to open your mind for all that is possible. Come as you are, leave with a sense of peace in your being.
