The Ashtanga Yoga closing prayer is traditionally chanted after the student has completed the asana practice and has come back to samastitihi. The words are a beautiful conclusion to the physical postures where the student dedicates the fruits of their practice to help bring happiness and peace to all beings everywhere. This chant literally signifies the end where upon completion the student is then advised to ‘take rest’. The vibration of the chant is much more soothing in contrast to the energy of the opening mantra at the start of the Ashtanga practice.

Svasthi Praja Bhyaha Pari Pala Yantam

Nya Yena Margena Mahim Mahishaha

Go Brahmanebhyaha Shubamastu Nityam

Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu

Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi
