Class info

In this beginners yoga class the sequence taught will aim to build awareness of the body and the breath , forming a connection of the two whilst building balance, strength and flexibility in equal measure. The sequence will have a lot of options and adjustments to make it as strong or as chilled as you want it. Perfect for people who are new to yoga and want to try it out. As much as it is fun to be challenged and push for your training goals, sometimes it is nice to kick back and pick some easier variations and manage your tighter / stiffer areas of the body that need to open up.Depending on what your day has been like at the gym or in the office (or with the kids) there will be plenty of encouragement and options in the postures, for days where you just want to stretch out and for the days when you want to really go for it. Perfect for the Wednesday night when you might want that midweek pick me up, or the midweek de-stress. We will end on 5 minutes of relaxation and enjoying the rest. The best bit! N.B. Yoga for Runners / Yoga for Cyclists This class is fundamentally a re-brand from the 'Yoga for Sports' classes that focused on cyclists and runners specifically, the new beginners class will have the same framework but made a bit more accessible and inclusive. Feedback from the sports classes was always positive and the term "No Nonsense Yoga" was often used to describe it. I take that as a compliment and want the class to be open to more people, while still having a sporty feel and an everyday vibe to it.

Description : A class designed with beginners in mind and additional options  for intermediates.
Working on a specific body area each week the class is slower than a typical vinyasa flow and has real focus on alignment and integrity of each and every posture. Beginning to work on adjustments to safely practice yoga we look at creating dynamic heat in the body looking to strengthen agonist and antagonist muscles whilst ensuring flexibility remains. Each class we will begin to work toward a peak posture, expect a light hearted, challenging and empathetic environment.  Joint issues, lower back problems and any other skeletal issue may well benefit from this class.

This class will begin again from Monday 3rd January 2022.

The Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series is a system designed to clear the mind and purify the body.  It is the breath that drives this process, therefore if you can breathe, you can practice Yoga. Moving through a sequence of standing and seated postures the key focus will be the coordination of breath and movement.  If you have not practiced yoga before this class will be the perfect introduction.  For those with some experience, it will give you the opportunity to develop and deepen your practice. NB.Please use the main entrance & park at the front of the school.  Follow the path around to the Sports Hall, Gym & Science block, The entrance to the gym is via double white doors on the left before you get to the sports hall further along on right.

Please note that this class will begin again from Saturday 4th September 2021

Yoga 'Vinyasa' Foundations has been created to build a strong and stable base on which to explore this school of yoga. With most of the Ashtanga Half Primary sequence forming the framework of this 'Vinyasa Flow' type practice, students will be taught how to build their strength in order to discover their flexibility in a stable way. In Yoga Vinyasa  Foundations, we will be interweaving complementary movements into the set sequence whilst maintaining a consistent connection between breath and posture. Paul guides an Ashtanga class with an occasional twist or two on the traditional style of teaching. It doesn't generally include a breath count when in the poses but the sequence is taught with those familiar Ashtanga Vinyasa flows. It's open to all levels so that experienced practitioners can always find the depth and beginners will be encouraged, challenged and where necessary have numerous options to modify. Whether it's your first class or 1000th, you will be just as entitled to access the blissful meditative state that arrives in sincere practice. The teaching language is anatomical and mindful as opposed to esoteric and mythological. Thinking of coming down to this class? Read a review of it here
