Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Ashtanga Yoga

faqA. Ashtanga Yoga, practiced in its correct sequential order, gradually leads the practitioner to rediscovering his or her fullest potential on all levels of human consciousness - physical, psychological, and spiritual. Through this practice of correct breathing (ujjayi pranayama), postures (asanas), and gazing point (dristhi), we gain control of the senses and a deep awareness of ourselves. By maintaining this discipline with regularity and devotion, one acquires steadiness of body and mind.

Q. How is Ashtanga Yoga different to other types of yoga?

A. Ashtanga is a sequence of postures which are linked by flowing movements synchronised with the breathing. By maintaining this flow the practitioner experiences a feeling of wellbeing in the mind and body.

Q. Am I too fat/thin/tall/small/old/young/unfit/inflexible

A. Ashtanga is an adaptable form of yoga that can be modified to suit every person’s body type.

Q. Do I have to book for the classes?

A. No. All classes are “drop-in" unless otherwise stated. A student may just turn up on any given day, join in, and enjoy the class.

Q. What do I wear?

A. Fortunately no ashtanga fashion code exists. Wear something you feel comfortable moving in.

Q. Why do you say that "Yoga is a Fire"?

A. Yoga is a fire
Burning brightly
It illuminates our path
Showing us which way
Is forward

Burning up the obstacles
That prevents us from understanding
Our true nature
Yoga is a fire

Yoga is a flame
Deep blood red
A flicker in my heart
A salvation

Yoga is a fire
Untouched by poison
Beautiful and pure
The divine
